Speaking of Writing airs every Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. from Laramie Wyoming's KOCA: LPFM 93.5 community biligual radio sation.
SOW brings the Laramie community interviews and readings from writers from all walks of life--from the uber-successful novelist with a ten book deal, to the MFA-er just staring out. We also feature shows with local songwriters and programs designed to let people know about community events.
Recent guests include novelists Richard Bausch, Pinckney Benedict, Sigred Nunez, Anthony Doerr, best-seller C.J. Box, Alyson Hagy, and National Book Award finalist Brad Watson, as well as Poets Rodney Jones, winner of the Kingsly Tufts poetry prize, and NBA finalist H.L. Hix.
We've also had globe trotters Pico Iyer , Alexandra Fuller, and Mark Jenkins on the non-fiction side of the boat.
For songwriters we've had the rockabilly blues musings of Nobel Laureate in Economics (for real) J. Shogren, as well as Fullbright recipient ethnomusicologist Debra Raver.
These are just a few of the guests over our three year stint, and we're always looking for possible interviews and guests, so if you have a book or CD coming out and would like to be on air with us, shoot us an email.
We have recordings podcast of many interviews. It is a bit complicated but you can listen if you have iTunes. Go to www.uwyo.edu/itunesu. Login as a member of the public - it is just for counting purposes so it doesn't matter if you are not a UW student. Find the Speaking of Writing icon (the face of a little black Schipperke dog) and click. You can download interviews for free or listen live.
